Inquire and Enquire

Inquire and enquire both have the same general meaning: to ask for information. You can use either.

Enquire is more commonly used in British English and inquire is more common in American English.

However, some people prefer to use inquire when talking about a formal investigation.

The police are going to inquire into the incident.

The police are going to investigate the incident.
